Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the kind of RPG that trusts you to read. The writing carries most of the weight, and the branching dialogue meant two of us ended up with noticeably different versions of the same chapter. Combat is turn-based but brisk, with a stamina system that stops you from just mashing your strongest attack.
Building a party is where it clicks. Each companion has a role that actually matters in harder fights, and swapping them in and out before a boss changed my whole approach. The map design respects your time too, with fast travel unlocking exactly when the backtracking would start to grate.
The art leans hand-painted and holds up beautifully on a phone screen. My only gripe is that the early tutorial drags. Push past the first hour and there's a genuinely absorbing adventure underneath.
What we liked
- Branching story with real consequences
- Tactical party composition
